Professional Summary
Key Research Areas & Contributions
Her primary research focuses on the identification of genomic factors responsible for recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), with an emphasis on identifying chromosomal abnormalities and underlying genomic factors associated with non-viable pregnancies. Through the application of high-resolution techniques such as chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA), she investigates both numerical and structural chromosomal alterations that often remain undetected by conventional methods. This work contributes to improving diagnostic accuracy, enhancing genetic counseling, and supporting evidence-based clinical decision-making for affected families.
Diagnostic Services
Ms. Tahir has played a key role in establishing advanced prenatal diagnostic services at IBGE, including non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) for fetal RhD genotyping, which represents one of the first implementations of this application in Pakistan. She has also established the Prenatal Rapid Aneuploidy Detection (RAD) service and contributed to the development of the Chromosomal Microarray (CMA) platform. She was involved in the establishment of a national level cytogenetics based biodosimetry facility for quantitative dose assessment in case of acute radiation exposures.
