She worked on various research projects related to immunological disorders including Asthma, Bone marrow failure syndromes and Nephrological disorders. She is currently leading an Infectious Diseases Laboratory and directing multiple research projects focused on clinically significant human infectious diseases prevalent in Pakistan.

Key Research Areas & Contributions

  • Dr. Nusrat Saba has worked extensively on the genetics of asthma, with a particular focus on molecular studies investigating the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying disease pathogenesis.
  • She contributed to molecular genetic investigations of immunological and hematological disorders, including aplastic anemia, Fanconi anemia, and bone marrow failure syndromes (in collaboration with NIH, USA), alongside studies on psoriasis and ischemic cardiovascular diseases.
  • Her current research focuses on genetic biomarkers of nephrological disorders and the development of phage-based therapeutic strategies to combat multidrug-resistant pathogens and antimicrobial resistance.

Diagnostic Services

Dr. Nusrat Saba is actively engaged in diverse molecular and clinical diagnostic services at IBGE, including:

  • PCR based diagnostic tests of all infectious diseases
  • HLA Typing for organ/tissue transplantation
  • AGXT gene mutation screening for Primary Hyperoxaluria type I (PHI)
